For All There Exists the Inevitable
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
The apocalypse is here.
The sun no longer shines on a deceased earth.
The moon has become the only place to survive, but good luck getting there.
And this death? This end of the world?
It’s just a slow decline.
The end of everything isn’t an explosion, or a collapse, but instead a simple gas station, and Stoffel, a simple honey badger left to observe the inevitable. But he’s not alone. Rover, the love of his life, builds a rocket, hoping to escape to the moon. Samantha the ant escapes from reality, embracing apathy over living. Ozzy the ostrich keeps the gas station running as a way to ignore the truth outside.
What’s the value in love with an expiration date?
Stoffel knows his time is running out. In three days, not only will the world end as those lucky enough to survive leave for the moon, but so will his love. Rover is leaving. And he’s not coming back.
So Stoffel is left wondering what everything meant. Knowing he can’t do a damn thing about it, all he can do is ask:
How do you deal with the inevitable?
Do you wait till time runs down, and avoid reality?
Do you run from it all to reach salvation?
Or do you fight against it? Try to find meaning in the limited time left, and hopefully find life after the inevitable.
For All There Exist the Inevitable by Applied Existence is a submission to the May Wolf 2025 Game Jam. Around 15,000 words long, it is a prototype for an expanded version which hopefully is soon to come.
